At 9 am on Saturday I arrived at the RDS Main hall. I was so nervous before I got there. I was nearly shaking but I met up with some of the girls from the course who were also doing the work experience. We set up and had a chat about our nerves to try calm each other bit it was fine. Keira gave us our brief on the makeup she wanted done on the models for that day. The brief was for a simple but strong bridal look as on stage the colours can become washed out.
I got to work on a wonderful model named Lauren for the day. She was lovely to work on and was very nice. We ran a little overtime and I was still applying mascara while she was getting her hair done! It was a really amazing experience to see how everything worked out backstage it which was similar to a well oiled machine.Everyone knew exactly what to do and how to do it. Everyone was also very professional. So after we finished the makeups every model had to go through Keiras criticism and she also fixed and improved our looks. When that was over, we watch the show and it was incredible the models and the dresses and everything was gorgeous. I nearly cried when model walked on stage as I was proud of myself. We took and hours break and after we had to touch up the makeups for a second show. For touchelsup we fixed lipstick and topup them on powder. After all that Keira gave us some feedback on our makeup looks which was really good to get some real and honest comments.
It was a really great experience and I loved every minute of it. If i was to do it again I would really watch my timing and I would make sure to pack on way more product onto the lids and cheeks as I didn’t realise how much the colours washed away while on stage but luckily Keira who was so amazing on the day helped me out quite a bit and made sure there was enough product.
All in all it was a really fabulous experience working back stage and I would definitely recommend it to everyone.
